This project is quite different from all the others in this website in that it is my own house. It is situated at the edge of the forest in the small village of Oxia, just 10 minutes walk from small Prespa lake in the north of Greece. The house dates back to 1920 and was fully renovated in 2014 with custom made design executed by local materials and artisans. The surroundings are quite rural with sheeps and horses at close distance. The lakes, a pristine bird sanctuary is one of the most beautiful and preserved landscapes in Europe. Hence the house is a shelter in the midst of wild nature coexisting in harmony with it. The house is sustainable and most of the materials used are either harvested in the area or found. The plaster is comprised from earth, hay and gravel, the roof shingles were salvaged from a demolished house and the roof beams are locally grown and harvested. The house is comprised of a single space that measures 4×10 meters with the kitchen and dining area on one side and the living and sleeping area on the other. It is just enough to fit our family of four.
